GadJet Suction Phone Holder

Imagine this: you’re navigating the muddy green-lanes of the Peak District, your 4x4 effortlessly tackling the toughest terrain. Everything is perfect until your mobile, which you’ve precariously perched on the dashboard, goes flying at the first bump.

This is the reason why, for the last 8 years or so, I’ve had a suction-style phone holder in Deux Smurf, but because it recently fell to pieces on me, I needed to find a new one.

Enter the GadJet Suction Phone Holder, my new best friend for road based adventures!

First things first, the GadJet Suction Phone Holder is a breeze to use. You simply slap it onto your windscreen, or dashboard, push down a lever on the base to create a vacuum seal, and voila - it's stuck there like a barnacle to a ship.

Unlike those fiddly air vent phone holders that require a degree in engineering to install and adjust, this one is truly idiot-proof.  And more importantly, you don't need to worry about blocking your heater in the winter or your air-con in the summer. And let’s be honest, who wants to faff around with those flimsy clips that never quite fit properly?

The phone holder itself has an adjustable grip that can accommodate pretty much any phone size, from the diminutive iPhone SE to the monstrous Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The grip is strong and secure, ensuring your phone doesn’t become a projectile on the first pothole you encounter. Plus, the 360º rotating head means you can switch from portrait to landscape mode in a jiffy.

But let’s not get carried away, this style of phone holder isn’t without its quirks. The suction cup, while generally reliable, can occasionally lose its grip, particularly if your windscreen is dusty or greasy. A quick clean usually does the trick.  And, if you live in an area that experiences extreme temperatures, the suction might falter. In the searing summer heat or biting winter cold, the adhesive properties can be a tad temperamental. But in my experience, after a quick wipe they’re good to go.

On the plus side, this holder doesn’t interfere with your view as much as some vent-mounted holders do. You won’t have to crane your neck to see the road while also trying to decipher the tiny GPS arrows. It’s all there, right in your line of sight, but not obstructively so, of course.

In my opinion, the GadJet Suction Phone Holder wins hands down in terms of convenience and flexibility. No more wrestling with air vent fins or dealing with a drooping phone every time you hit a bump. However, it’s not entirely faultless, the colour - it’s a bit garish!

Other than that, if you’re an 4x4 enthusiast or just someone who values a hassle-free driving experience, the GadJet Suction Phone Holder is a worthy investment. It keeps your phone secure, your vents free, and your sanity intact. Just give your windscreen a quick wipe before sticking it on, and you’re good to go. Happy ‘laning, and may your phone always stay put!
