Cobb, the BBQ that grills, fry, bakes, boils & smokes

The Cobb has been around for quite a while, in fact back in 2001 Time Magazine featured the Cobb as one of the best inventions of that year.  It started life as an inexpensive all metal stove that could be distributed in aid programmes to third world countries and has grown into one of the most versatile BBQ's that we've tested to date.

Over the years I've cooked all sorts on it: chicken, duck, pizza, chilli, fry ups to a Sunday lunch with all the trimmings.

Fuel wise I tend to use Cobblestones, they’re designed for the Cobb and only take around 7 minutes to heat up at last for well over a couple hours, enough to cook the aforementioned chicken.  A pack of 6 costs around £11.50 and takes up less room than a pair of trainers!  You can use other types of coals and briquettes of course, and if you don't need to cook anything for that long, Cobb also offer their Ultra Quick BBQ Briquettes which are the same size and shape as their Cobblestones, but are ready to cook on in only 2 minutes and last 1-1/2 hours.

The elements that make up Cobb:

    • Dome: made with stainless steel and it has a heat-resistant handle. The holes in the Dome ensure even ventilation throughout the cooking process creating an oven effect.
    • Grill Grid: with an easy to clean Teflon® non-stick coating. Excess fat drains away through the holes and into the moat.
    • Fire Basket: A secured area for the Cobble Stone or loose briquettes.
    • Stainless steel moat: catches all excess fat. The moat can also be used for cooking vegetables.
    • Base: with anti-slip rubber feet, the base remains stable and cool to touch during use.
    • All the components with the exception of the base are dishwasher safe.

Not only is the Cobb multi-talented, but there's a huge selection of quality accessories available too, most of which I use regularly and promise to get around to reviewing  soon. In the meantime, for more information about this ingenious way of cooking, check out the website.  All I can add is that it’s way better and more efficient than any other BBQ that I’ve owned or used.  If for some reason you're the suspicious type and don’t believe anything that you read here, just do a Google search and read all its great reviews!
