Gerber Steady Multi-tool

OK, so the Gerber Steady may not have as many tools, and it might be a bit chunkier than other multi-tools on the market, but it does have a neat trick up its sleeve. Unfold the two legs and attach the suction cup and it quickly becomes a tripod for either taking photos, Skypeing or watching stuff on your phone. Alternatively, using its standard 1/4" fitting, screw in your small camera for those steady shots you want to take, or group selfies.  It will hold a compact digital camera up to 340 grams and using the suction cup, a smart phone up to 170 grams.

The tripod fitting is on a ball swivel, which is necessary if you want to get a level shot on an unlevel surface and the tripod legs have non-slip silicone feet to keep it from slipping. The plastic body means that it’s light and comfortable to use, though others have moaned that it’s too chunky.

If I have to be picky, then I’d moan about that fact that none of the tools lock into position and some are difficult to open as their catches are below the surface on the body, but once in use they work perfectly.

Overall it’s a useful tool to keep in your travel bag and perfect if your arms aren’t long enough to take a respectable selfie!
